Phrasal verb: " to take on and to take over"

1) I am going to take over this task.

2) I am going to take on this task.

It seems to me that sometimes this two verbs have the same meaning and other times not. So Are they the same meaning in the above context?

It seems to me that sometimes this two verbs have the same meaning and other times not. So Are they the same meaning in the above context?
