Hi,

I am late because my alarm clock never ---- this morning.

rang out / went off

What does "go off" mean here?

Cambridge dictionary:

If a light or a machine goes off, it stops working:
The lights went off in several villages because of the storm.

I am late because my alarm clock "never" went off this morning.

But there is "never" in my sentence above.

Never went off = it didn't stop working?
