Photo

Hello, teachers!

Would you please help me with this expression?

1. My girlfriend's photograph hangs on the wall of my bedroom.
- Is "my girlfriend's photograph" correct? Shouldn't it be "a photograph of my girlfriend"?

2. A photograph of my girlfriend hangs on [the wall of] my bedroom.
- Can I say "It hangs on my bedroom." with omitting 'the wall of'?

Thank you very much.
Peace!

"my girlfriend's photograph" is much better than "a photograph of my girlfriend". "It hangs in my bedroom" is possible, but not "on my bedroom". Remember "on" means "on the surface of".

  • "my girlfriend's photograph" is much better than "a photograph of my girlfriend".
  • "It hangs in my bedroom" is possible, but not "on my bedroom".
  • Remember "on" means "on the surface of".
  • It makes sense for a photo to hang "on the surface" of a wall, but not "on the surface" of a bedroom.
  • Reversing, "in" means "within the confines of", so it makes sense for a photo to hang "within the confines of" a bedroom, but not "within the confines" of a wall.
