Vocabulary

phony or fake?

Anybody knows what are the differences?

I am watching "Breakfast at Tiffany's"(1961).

In the movie they used a lot of "phony" instead of "fake". Did people in 60's speak that way?

Hi, I'd say not in England. Possibly in the US although I, like you, only know AmE of that time from the movies. It also depends on the context, since phony is informal.
