hi everyone!
I wrote a motivation letter for a Phd position at Amsterdam University, Psychiatric Dipartment.
Can you guys check on my letter, please?
Thank you
Dear Prof. _______ I am writing to express my great interest in applying for the Phd position in the VICI project at the Department of Psychiatry of the VU University Medical Center (VUMC) and GGZ inGeest. I am confident that my education, my experience and my personal attitudes make me qualified for this Phd position.I studied psychology for six years in Italy, at University of Studies in Rome "Sapienza". I have a Bachelor's in Clinical Assessment and Counselling for childhood, adolescence and family and a Master Degree in Clinical and Dynamic Psychology of childhood, adolescence and family. Actually, I'm finishing the State qualifying exam of the psychologist profession in Italy and I'm studying for the final test of the Facial Action Coding System of Paul Ekman. My undergraduate curriculum in Psychology introduced me to a wide range of topics including neuropsychology, psycopathology, dynamic and clinical aspects of diagnosis, epidemiology, comorbidity and scientific research.Thought my clinical oriented education, I always have been interested in psychological research activity, especially after my fist pre-lauream training, a period of six months working in a social co-operative for schizophrenic and borderline patients. The desire to delve deeper into research world motivated me to attend for one year, in 2009-2010, in a scientific study conducted by the Department of Psychology of Sapienza University, specifically by the teamwork of Prof. Zavattini. We investigated the correlation between emotional disregulation and different pattern of attachment in a sample of bulimic women, finding interesting and relevant results for the future research also.My role in the team has been to do a detailed bibliographic research, to collect and analyse data and to write a scientific article that became in the end my graduation thesis. The interest for physical and psychological aspects of pathology characterises my proneness to research; it motivates me to do not stay anchored to a too much sectorial and specific view but to observe and consider different aspects and facets of phenomena, through observation and scientific method, in order to an holistic view of reality.Passionate of psychosomatic medicine and confident in the absence of separation between physical and psychological disease and in the importance, for this reason, of a bigger awareness paradigm, I would love the chance to investigate on biological and other aspects of two such "psychological" phenomena like depression and anxiety. The interest for research find a place not only in my professional career but also in my personal life. I started a personal auto-observation path of the connection between sight diseases and anxiety patterns, conducting this "home made observation" for an year and identifying a strong relationship between fear and anxiety states and sight quality.I would be grateful for your consideration of my candidacy for this Phd position. In the meantime, I am enclosing my Curriculum Vitae.Sincerely,Daniela Mascaro.
