I am writing to apply for the PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at University of Xxxxx. I graduated in Nano Engineering (Major: Nano Semiconductor) in 2010 from University of Xxxxx, XX.



During my master’s studies, I focused on both the growth and characterization of thin films and nanostructured semiconductors. I handled molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) as a growth technique and used characterization techniques such as photoluminescence, Hall-Effect measurement, and capacitance-voltage measurement. In cooperation with other laboratories of my department, I learned how to operate thermal evaporator, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). I spent a great deal of time studying nanostructured material engineering as it pertains to lattice-mismatched heterojunction of semiconductor. The work focused on analysis of the structural, electrical, and optical properties of these materials. My master’s thesis involved designing and characterizing self-assembled InAs quantum dots and ZnO epitaxial layers for the application of high performance optoelectronic devices. Furthermore, I participated in several projects that studied doping behavior of Mg in AlGaAs and GaAs epitaxial layers. These work has already resulted in the publication of several papers in SCI Journal.



Having carefully observed your ongoing research, I am strongly interested in your work on advanced electronic materials and devices; especially MBE growth and characterization of III-V semiconductors. So, if I get admitted to the Materials Science and Engineering PhD program at the University of Xxxxx, I'd like to know if you could provide me with a chance to work as a PhD student under your supervision. Being well aware of your outstanding academic accomplishments, it would be rewarding experience for my research career. I am sure that my passion to research in semiconductor materials and devices, along with my skills, knowledge and competence would make me a valuable member of your research group.
