PhD cover letter: Biomedical Engineering

Dear all,
I am applying for a PhD studentship and would like to ask for your opinions on my cover letter.
I have found a very good match from my MSc degree to this PhD post as the project in PhD is exactly as what I have been doing in my MSc degree.
Therefore, I would not like to let go this "perfect" opportunity
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Professor XXX.
I am writing to express my interest in applying for the PhD in XXX. This cover letter aims to show my competency and motivation in pursuing the project
Competency
I am pursuing an MSc Biomedical Engineering degree at XXX with my thesis focusing on Medical High Intensity Focused Ultrasound guided by Ultrasound Elastography (UEgHIFU). The goals of this project are to build and evaluate the accuracy of UEgHIFU system in tumour-mimicking phantom with different size and depths; with part of the project is to reconstruct 3D models from sets of 2D ultrasound-image slices. The UEgHIFU system is operated under both shear wave elastography and strain wave elastography modes that enables statistical comparison between these two modalities.
As I worked very closely with the equipment related to the PhD post (i.e. shear wave elastography from XXX , UEgHIFU system from XXX, developing tumour-mimicking phantom and CAD modelling) and that Dr XXX is also my supervisor in the MSc project, I believe that I will advance and adapt quickly upon entering this PhD program.

Motivation
Firstly, the challenges in each research project represent many new approaches and potentially new observations. I am committed to pursuing a research career; and thus I have been actively involving in many research projects and placements, in which I feel very alive and motivated for making meaningful contributions.
Secondly and mainly, the initial investigation on UEgHIFU has signified the potential in using shear wave elastography (SWE) but the results still require refinements and more reliable approaches which are beyond the scope of my MSc project. Therefore I am looking for a PhD position to match my personal drives and attributes to carry out further investigations in SWE (e.g. contrast enhancer (bubble dynamics) locally produced by HIFU at the focal point; larger data samples for a more reliable results; different types of tumour-mimicking phantom and eventually on real tissues).
Apart from the experience which is relevant to this PhD post, I also have strong analytical and statistical skills, competence of high level language (C++) and excellent experimental skills.
I have enclosed my curriculum vitae under the name “CV.pdf” with details of my referee at the end of the documents. I look forward to your reply and am available for an interview at your convenience.
Yours sincerely,
XXX
