PhD Assistantship

Hello everybody,

I came across this job announcement:
"A Ph.D. assistantship is available to carry out work on coastal ecology and seagrass restoration".
I'm afraid I don't know what a PhD assistant exactly is; my sense is that s/he might be a student who helps a PhD doctor or a PhD student in a specific research, but s/he not necessarily has to be a PhD student and with this job s/he can't get a PhD at the end. Am I close to what it really is?

I'm sorry to ask that in here but after searching further informations in the website of the University which published the announcement, I couldn't find any help Emotion: sad

Thank you very much for your help Emotion: smile

I would expect it to mean an assistantship which is available only to a student currently studying toward his/her PhD.

I guess it is more reasonable to understand that the university expect someone with a PHD or being a PHD student to do the assistant job and the university will pay money for this job.

Because it would be strange for a PhD student asking help from others people with the research and pay people assistantship.

Anyway, the best way is directly sending your concerns to the correspond

I think it mean a contrast to a "TA" or "Teaching Assistant." Instead of teaching, you do research. In both cases, you receive either a stipend or a tuition waiver. Definitely contact the univeristy for more info!
