PhD application cover letter in health system

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to apply for PhD student position for ***** at AA University.

In 2016, I completed my Master of Public Health degree at BB University. That program has trained me to draw on knowledge and skills from a variety of disciplines to help define, critically assess and resolve a broad spectrum of public health problems and issues. I also earned a Master of Pharmacy degree from CC University in Taiwan which I obtained in 2012. That program involved practical applications of clinical theory, and research methodology as well. Additionally, I also hold a Bachelor of Law degree from DD University and a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from CC University. In general, most of my studies were focused on health policy, national health insurance, and medical administration and law. For over a decade, I have been cultivating an advanced interest in public health and health policy.

During my graduate studies, I gained experience in research and public-health education. At BB University, my master’s thesis was titled “-----.” I performed a scope review to compare the difference between Taiwan and Japan system regarding governance, human resources, infrastructures, service delivery, and finances. Besides, I also had numerous opportunities, using STATA, to perform statistical procedures and produce data reports, and I applied epidemiological research principles to these reports while my time at BB University. At CC University, my master’s thesis project, entitled, “-----,” provided me with the opportunity to learn about research protocol writing, research design, database use and working with SAS and SPSS to generate and to analyze reports. This project by using Health Insurance Database tried to estimate the incidence of drug-drug interactions and to determine the risk groups. In addition to learning statistical programs, I have also gained experience in how to do a project using TreeAge to perform a cost-effectiveness analysis of -----.

I focused my professional career on public health and health policy since 2008. I worked as a pharmacist at -----, a national level foundation dealing with drug injury relief, adverse drug reaction evaluation and defect products evaluation. I gathered and analyzed the medicinal product safety issues from EU, USA and Japan for authority to determine the management of medical products. I evaluated the reported adverse drug reaction cases and periodic safety update reports to generalize signal detection and attended committee to provide professional advice to the regulations for the medical products. I lectured in health policy such as Drug Injury Relief Act, civil liability and the compensation systems for ADRs, medical products regulations, and national health insurance policy. I have also worked as a regulatory affairs consultant at ----. I provide advice on health policies and the regulatory of medicinal products, cosmetics and supplements to make sure all the products complying with the regulations.

I am confident that my skills, related experiences, and background would help me with my PhD research in health system.
