Dear Dr. Morris

I am writing in response to the PhD studentship currently available under your supervision. I would like to apply for this position and I believe that my academic background and experience are suited for this position.

I am currently undertaking MSc molecular medicine & cancer research at Brunel University. During my course I became familiar with different aspects of cancer genetics, cancer therapy, cytogenetic as well as a number of different techniques employed in cancer research.

I gained some basic knowledge on cancer genetics while studying an honored bachelor degree in pharmaceutical sciences. I was fascinated by the topic and wanted to know more about the underlying mechanisms and therapeutical strategies available for cancer. Therefor I chose to do this course for my Masters. This PhD would allow me to further my knowledge on cancer research and to do my best to contribute to progression of this field.

I am capable of working for long hours, under pressure, and carrying out multiple tasks at one time both as an individual and as a part of a team. This has been proven as I have been conducting two different projects parallel for the past three months. The first project is my MSc project which is to investigate the biological effect of Repo-Man protein knockdown in Neuroblastoma cells. The other project is to investigate the characteristics of a possible isoform of the mentioned protein found by myself. The outcome of both projects is yet to be confirmed. However this experience gave me an excellent opportunity to heighten my analytical and laboratory skills, while gaining an understanding of ethics and rules of conduct based on which laboratories work.

Having lost dear ones because of cancer, I have personal incentives and motives to work in this field and to contribute to progression of cancer research.
