I work for a law firm as a paralegal. I have a Ph.D. and use my specialty to help the firm. When signing letters, I have always placed my degree after my last name. Recently one lawyer told me I could not because it was not lawful to do so! Is this true? Where or what is the rule for this? Help!

If the attorney for whom you are working doesn't have the equivalent of a PhD, (s)he may not want your degree mentioned, if you are "just" a paralegal, especially if your degree is in an unrelated field.
