what does a dot over a dash and andother dot underneath the dash mean in the pharmacy?

I think it's the template for dosage: above the line will be the number of tablets per dose, below the line will be the number of doses per day.

I work in an Assisted Living facility and see a lot Physicians orders where that basically means 1 (whole) tablet or Capsule etc.; two dots on top and two dots below a dash means 2 (whole) tab's so one dot on top and two dots below a dash would mean a half of a tab etc. When Keeping track of narcotics being given, we can either use the symbol(s) or the "number" (1, 2 etc.) for amount of tablets gi
