I'm a highschool student of many that are very upset about losing a school traditon that has been around for many years. Even when my parents were in school. It's called Red Feather. Red Feather is a get together at the start of the school year for all of the schools in our district to join in a parade and walk down the main street, and also put together teams such as Football, softball, ultimate frisby, hockey, cheerleading, animal house, and just random fun games to compete against the other schools to raise money fo the United Way. All the schools will put hard work into this every year, and anyone thats not on the teams will show up and cheer and show their school spirit! At the end of the final day of Red Feather, there is usually a dance for everyone to enjoy, but here's the problem ..
Unfortunatly, a couple years ago-the year when I was in grade eight, an incedent occured. There were students showing up to some of these events after they'ev been drinking, and some threw up at the dance, and during some of their events, and because of this, they've taken away the dance, broom ball AND the parade. And the majority of us in highschool now never got to experience a real Red Feather. The United Way has lost profit due to all of this, and less and less people are attending any of Red Feather. I think there needs to be something done to get our Red Feather back to the way it was, but they don't want to risk the chances of the same thing happen again.
So as a student, I'm trying to take action and recommend a way that we can overcome this and try to write a letter to the United Way, and to the School Board and try to convince them into giving it another shot at this Red Feather thing. I first of all need to learn how to format a letter, and what I'd need to include. And I'm also in need of ideas to maybe use so that we don't run into these problems again.
I really need your help. e-mail or message. <email address removed by mod.>
