Peter picked up a lost wallet today.

Hi,

Let's say my friend Peter picked up a lost wallet in the morning. In the afternoon, I told Sam, "Peter picked up a lost wallet today."

Is this sentence correct? Or should I say "Peter picked up a lost wallet earlier today"?

Thank you very much.
