Perspective

I realised that I have problems with this word far too often Emotion: smile What is its meaning here in this sentence:

By meeting people from around the world and experiencing different cultures, they (volunteers) learn to put their own problems into perspective, especially if they are used to an easy consumer lifestyle"
Thank you very much in advance!
