thank you so much.

BTW, I would like to clarify the word "peoples".

If we know the approx. no. e.g. 1 billion, we should say "1 billion people".

If we don't know the exact no., we should use "many peoples (for a population?)", am I right?

and "persons

Hi,

In simple terms, it may help you to think of it this way.

When you are thinking of them as a group, say 'people'. When you are thinking of them as individuals, you can choose to say 'persons'.

1. There are X billion people in the world.

2. The police officer asked how many persons were in the car.

This is from Wikipedia: a group of people sharing aspects of language, culture and/or ethnicity

For example :

There are 56 peoples in China.

The Han People is the dominant people (the ethnic majority).

The other 55 are called ethnic minorities.

And Some peoples have their own Autonomous Regions, but the others don't have.

Hi,

Today, when I am in an elevator, I find a sign saying "15 persons". Is that correct? Yes. I guess the thought is that if you add one more person, the elevator will be dangerous.

But I wouldn't call it wrong if the word 'people' were used here, instead.
