Persons / people / invididuals

Hello everybody, let's see if you could help me with this:

Which would be the most formal way of saying this sentence and the differences among them?

The following persons attended the Board of Directors' meeting held...
people
individuals

I heard that "the following persons" it is not proper English.

On the contrary, the word "individuals" could sound a bit derogatory in Spanish but I doubt it in English.

Thank you in advance to all of you.

'Individual' has a slightly whimsical air in English, rogue. I would say: The Board of Directors' meeting on 23rd February 2005 was attended by: MrP, Rogue, etc. MrP
