Persons?

Hallo everyone
If you could tell me why some people use 'persons' as the plural form of 'a person'?
I've heard that in some contexts it is correct, if so, when is it?

thank you

I'm inclined to go for 'persons', however on the other hand,
something inside me protests against it. After learning English for several years
(unfortunately mostly from grammar books) it looks like 2+2=5.
When I came to Britain 2 years ago, I had to forget what I had known about English,
and start from scratch
