Personal statement - PhD

Hello everyone !!!

I'm working on my personal statement for Phd program.
I have no experience in papers like that and I will be very gratefull if someone
could give me some constructive criticism and help me to make it better.

many thanks!

I consider myself to be inquisitive by nature. As long as I can remember, I have been fascinated and puzzled by things
that surround me. I want to know what makes them what they are. The moment that shaped my interests happened
when I realized that the world is much more than I can see with the naked eye. Then I started to dream about having
a microscope more than anything else. I begged my parents for days swearing to them that if they buy it for me I will
be the best child in the world. They were resistant at first. A microscope was expensive and I was just a kid at the time. After days of my speeches on how important for me it is they finally decided to give me my first microscope. Now I would consider it to be a toy, but then it was the greatest piece of an advanced technology. I still remember the feeling when
I looked through the ocular for the first time. I was mesmerized. At that time I tested everything that I could make thin enough to fit under the cover slip. Since then I have been under the spell of this micro universe and this feeling influenced most of my educational choices.

I started my higher education knowing that I want to be a scientist. Biotechnology was an obvious choice to me because
of its multidisciplinary nature. Pursuing a broad field of knowledge and experience carries special appeal. As medical issues were always the most interesting to me, I wanted to focus on fundamental studies in the medical field. During my graduate research I become a part of a team cooperating with a hospital to study molecular background of fibrotic changes in the development of asthma. This experience provided me with the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of laboratory techniques and ignited my passion for cell biology and pathophysiology. Taking care of cell cultures was always my favourite thing to do in the lab. Fallowing the life of the cell in the real time is truly fascinating. My attention to detail helped me to notice even the smallest change. Working with something so delicate and unpredictable is challenging in very exciting way. It requires good combination of knowledge, organization and manual skills. Additionally to my Master’s research I also had an internship in the hospital laboratory where I learned how to prepare samples for biochemical, serological and microbiological analysis. This experience deepened my interest in histology and immunology.

I believe that being a scientist is the most exciting job you can possibly have. I want to be involved in this fascinating and constantly evolving profession and I look forward to beginning a career in research. The work in your laboratory is on the cutting edge of modern medicine and provides multidimensional development combining skills of different specialists. That is exactly what I would like to engage myself in. The field of regenerative medicine ignites my curiosity the most and I will do my best to exceed your expectations. It is really important to me to work on my PhD in international, diverse setting and that is exactly what your lab offers. I want to be a part of a dynamic and ambitious team. I am confident that my interdisciplinary biotechnology background together with passion for cell biology will provide new valuable contribution to your research team. I look forward to working hard, seeing the opportunity in every difficulty, and expanding my knowledge in your laboratory.
