Perplexing sentences

1. ........... experience is vital to advancing in the game, and can be earned in a number of different ways.

a) Earning b) Gaining

I go for 'Earning'. I know that we say 'gain experience' , but I don't think it fits here.

I would appreciated it if you explained to me the difference between 'earn experience' and 'gain experience'

2. I will visit you in ............

a) two weeks time b) two weeks' time
