Period or colon for URL's?

Hi All,

Is there any rule whether using a period or colon when indicating a URL?

For example,

Example 1:

Please refer to the link below.
www.url.com

Example 2:

Please refer to the link below:
www.url.com

--- I personally use the latter but I just want to know if there's any rule for this.
