period after parenthesis?

I like fruit (apples, grapes, peaches, etc.).

Is the second period needed after the parenthesis?

It's the first that should not be there, in BrE at least.

Whereas the American style requires that the et cetera abbreviation etc. include the period. So one is the period for the abbreviation and the other is the one that ends the sentence.

I would puncutate it as you showed above.

You punctuate as though what is inside the parentheses was not there.

I agree with Barbara, I believe both are needed and it is correct as written.
