Period

Hi. What is 'period' below doing? Is it there, as the 'period' in 'I won't talk to you! Period!'?

'Oh, by the way, I almost forgot, while you were upstairs with Mom, Marcos called.'

'Marcos?'

'Yeah, Marcos.'

'Why would Marcos call me here?' Louise mused. Why would he call her period?

'He was looking for Missy.'
Thanks.

Louise is puzzled as to why Marcos called her. In fact, she is very surprised that he called her at all. "Period"[full stop] here is being used to emphasize Louise's surprise.

Hi Feebs11 and thank you for raising the question, HSS.

'Why would Marcos call me here?'

What does the word 'here' mean here? Could I just say 'Why would Marcos call me?' and still be giving the same meaning?

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Hi, Feebs11.

Thanks for your enlightenment. I thought this usage of 'period' was only used in the statement, as in "I will never call you any more period!" So, it is also used in the interrogative, isn't it?

Hi.

For your information, Peaceblinkfriend, Louise was visiting her mother when she received the call there. She was surprised to know that Marcos had gone to the trouble of calling her there.
