Performing worst or worst performing?

Hi.
Can someone help me with the following sentence? Is the 'performing worst' or 'worst performing'? Is the rest of the sentence okay?

"Although sample sizes are relative small, it is clear that on average the African countries are performing worst."

I got the same issue with the following sentence. Do I need the use 'the Latin American nations' or 'Latin American nations'.

"Finally, it is interesting to pinpoint the infrastructural similarities between the Latin American nations"

Thanks in advance!

Sorry. I forgot to mention that I more doubt about my sentence than I initially thought.
