Perfect Tense

i have this sentence and am not sure what tense to use:
1. With that smile, it felt like summer HAD only just begun.
2. With that smile, it felt like summer HAS only just begun.

You need 1. Otherwise you're mixing past and present.

felt is past tense. had is past tense. (had begun is therefore past perfect tense.)
