1. Can the tense of "Having p.p. ~ of a subordinate [adverbial] clause" ever be the same as the tense of the main clause?

2. Still, does the tense of "Having p.p. ~ of a subordinate clause" precede the tense of the main clause?
3. When we rephrase the example perfect participial construction, please which one is correct?

a. As I had worked with many clients over the years, I have been occasionally surprised to watch as S + V(past tense} ~

b. As I have worked with many clients over the years, I have been occasionally surprised to watch as S + V(past tense} ~
