Perfect Infinitive in Passive Voice

Hi!

I'm having a problem with understanding the use of Perfect Infinitive in Passive Voice.

In the example:

-Have you finished the report?

- Not yet. Mr James expects it ...................... (finish) by Friday.

do i need to put 'to be finished' or 'to have been finished'?

Top answer

-Have you finished the report? -Not yet. Mr James expects it to be finished by Friday.

  • -Have you finished the report?
  • -Not yet.
  • Mr James expects it to be finished by Friday.
  • The perfect is a past tense, so you can't use it with "expects", which in your example has a future time meaning.

ann003- Not yet. Mr James expects it ...................... (finish) by Friday.

Passive infinitive:

Mr James expects ii to be finished by Friday.

Perfect infinitive, passive:

They were supposed to have been finished by Thursday a week ago.
