Vocabulary

perched?

Hi
Please help me with this.
I came across this sentence in an article.
I saw that from my window perched on the eighth floor of the building.
My doubt: Here I wonder how it can be perched when window is a part of the room. I think perched would suit something mounted over something.
By referring to window being perched on the eighth floor it may as  well be said the room was perched on the eighth floor

It's a bit of a metaphor. Perching is what birds do, so the word is used to illustrate how high up the window seems.
