What does perceptum mean?

The word appears in the Shorter Oxford as a variant of "percept", "an object of perception". I think the Lacanians have adopted it straight from Latin, though, probably through Lacan's French, and have given it a specific meaning only they know about. You'd have to fish around in Lacan's stuff to have any hope of knowing exactly what it means to them, if they even know.

  • They have used the singular where English would have the plural "percepta".
