Percentage single or plural

A. 90% of all students were employed.

B. 90% of all students was employed.

Just wondering which of these are correct.

It is definitely 'were'. Even if it is 1%.

1% of all students were employed.

Restructure the sentence and you can see why.

Students were employed, 90% of them.

Just wondering which of these are is correct.

One is correct, therefore, the subject is singular.
