Grammar

per square foot / per square feet

Dear all,

which one is correct, per square foot or per square feet? It is basically a value / (1x1), while 1x1 is 1 as well, so should we use foot / feet?

Thanks!

If you are refering to 1 square area it would be a square foot. If you are refering to multiple square areas it would be square feet.

For Example: She rents the space at a cost of $15 per square foot. Vs. She rents the space at a cost of $45 for every three square feet.

Hope that helps.

When using the term as an adjective before a noun, e.g., the 400 square foot building, use foot. Otherwise, use the plural feet, e.g., the building is 400 square feet.

Following the advice prior to your comment, you would be a 6 foot man, but your height is 6 feet.

actually i just realized that there is no such thing as 'square feet' and i have been using it incorrectly forever.

foot is a unit. we have 1 square foot, 2 square feet, and so on.
square foot is a unit, which is the square of foot. so i dont know what square feet is. if there is any plural form, it should be 'square-foots.'
