Pepper: It's starting to show

HI teachers,

We say food gone bad, gone stale, was spoiled. What's the transition getting there? I once heard "it's starting to show" when it was referred to a pepper from a fridge, if I'm mistaken.

Would you tell me if "show" mean?

Thanks
