'people with venture capital background'?

Hi,

Please have a look at this:

Consider SmithKline's approach. The huge pharmaceutical firm's nearly $7 billion research effort is being broken down into smaller teams and organised as separate units, each with its own board of directors that includes outsiders, notably people with venture capital backgrounds.

What does the bold part mean?

Many thanks,

Nessie.

Thank you very much, MM, and sorry for asking so many questions. Actually I didn't think there is the term 'venture capital' in the dictionary, so I just looked up 'venture' and 'capital' and tried to translate them but I still couldn't understand what the phrase meant. I've just realised there is a definition for 'venture capital'
