People who read of pleasure have better imagination and language skills than those who prefer watching TV. To what extent do you agree?

It is believed that individuals can imagine and have linguistic expressions better when they enjoy reading rather than watching TV. From my point of view, I mostly agree with this idea for the reasons as following.

Indeed, those who choose to watch TV may find it easy to imagine things and can learn different interesting words to use in life as the programs are lively and diversified. However, the benefits that they can gain from reading books outweigh those from just watching TV.

To begin with, in terms of imagination, reading stimulates people to use their brain functions to picture backgrounds or special scenes of a story. Let alone those who just skim the content, individuals who really enjoy reading will try their best to feel the meaning of the context by imagining how things can happen. In contrast, for those watching TV, too lively illustrations on the screen may put viewers in laziness as all details are shown clearly so they do not have to envisage anything from that story or program.

When it comes to language skills, people reading books can learn a lot from those compositions. It can be the way the authors organize words, their writing style, formal and informal words and so on. Different types of expressions are included in even one book so readers can obtain much in terms of language, both verbal and writing ones.

To sum up, although people can still get both good imagination and language skills when watching TV, it is reading books as a hobby that really boost their sense of picturing things and using words since they have to use brain functions frequently.
