We are living in the flat world economically and socially. Therefore, there have been a growing number of people moving to other places to further their career or education or on other purposes. Consequently, the question on whether people should adapt to new country’s characteristics when they move to new nation has been raised and still a source of controversy. In my opinion, I totally agree with this view.
The first reason is that the life of people starting to live in new nation is more favorable. No matter where we live, each individual is a member of a community. Therefore, in order to survive and develop in new place, people have no choice but to comply with new customs and traditions that have been set up and accepted by the majority of the community. Otherwise, new residents will find them become isolated and unable to get involved with the rest of the community. Or in another word, they do not have the sense of community. This leads to adverse impacts on their life. For example, people considered as weird will find it exceedingly difficult to get prompt and timely support from their neighbors when they are in need.
The second reason is that by complying with new customs and traditions, new comers have chance to experience new values. Across the world, based on geologically and sociologically distinctive properties, norms vary considerably from one nation to others. And when following new customs and traditions, new members of the community will acquire knowledge and deep meaning as well as origin of these new things that previously they did not know. For example, even though Vietnamese consider the first day of lunar calendar marks a new year, Vietnamese Americans can enjoy the happy atmosphere and colorful firework displays of New Year’s Eve with their loved ones.
In one word, I entirely agree with the view that people should abide with new customs and traditions when they settle in new nation.
