People betray people

-You're constantly worried that your friends might stab you in the back, but you're never worried that your dog might bite you.
-That's because people betray their friends and dogs don't.

Is this sentence acceptable in spoken English in that context?
How about in formal English?

Many Thanks.
Azz.
