Penniless

My business partner had cheated and financially exploited me. Literally, if i i'm not even left with money that would be enough to feed me, what am i called ? A bankrupt ?

Is this correct? If so, could you please help me with (possibly other formal sounding) alternatives to that.

I would think stage one would be ‘impoverished’ (made poor by circumstances). Stage two would have to do with being unable to pay debts (mortgage, loans, rent) and that might be called ‘insolvent’ or ‘bankrupt’. The final stage would be ‘destitute’ – without the basic necessities of life (homeless).
