I think I misheard but it's supposed to be pan out.

Oh! Yes. You can use pan out for work out. It's more casual, but it has the same basic meaning.

See I didn't even know we could use work out but I just said it 'cause I thought it was appropriate and made sense....

I think the expression comes from panning for gold in a stream. If no gold is found, we say the location didn't pan out.

Nonsense. It's pend out. It's slang. Pend as in pending. If I schedule a follow up for something a week hence, I am going to "pend it out." Or "let's pend this meeting out a week".

"Pan out" and "work out" are certainly legitimate expressions that work in the context given. I've never heard or read "pend out" either, although I don't deny that it might be in use somewhere. Can you cite any sources documenting its use? It's not in Urban Dictionary, which is pretty good f
