Thank you Clive.

I should have asked a question like "if 'off' can be replaced with 'of,' does the meaning change?".

I found the that line from the movie "Dead poets society".
That sounds weird because the movie was filmed about 25 years ago?

Hi,
Good movie.

Why would 25 years make it sound weird?

Actually, you can even use "on" instead of "off".

(for someone) to be penalized one point on a grade/score.
to penalize (someone) one point on a grade/score.
