Sentence 1:

Finn headed toward the office. He reached the door, which was half-open, and peeked in to see a man talking on the phone.

Is "peeked in" okay to mean that he looked into the office?

Sentence 2:

Finn headed toward the office. He reached the door, which was half-open, and peeked through it to see a man talking on the phone.
