'pederast' in online Merriam-Webster's thesaurus
There was a controversy involving the Merriam-Webster Online Thesaurus at www.m-w.com . Objections were made to the word "pederast" turning up as a result of a search for "homosexual." Merriam-Webster subsequently removed "homosexual" from the online thesaurus.
It is still in the printed version, as I recently verified. However, it was not given as a synonym, but appeared after "rel," meaning it was a related word. The word "lesbian" was also given as a related word. Unfortunately, I cannot remember if any of the words given as synonyms in that entry were specific to male homosexuals. If they were, then either "lesbian" should have been given as a synonym rather than as a related word, or the specific meanings for a male homosexual should have been given as related words. (Anyone out there have a paper copy of the M-W thesaurus to clarify the matter?)
