I'm not sure that the term "sports class" is used in UK schools (it certainly wasn't when I was at school), though it is easily understandable as meaning a class where sport is taught. In the UK, "PE" is the traditional name for the school subject.

That's right. When I attended primary and secondary schools in England, the subject was just called "PE". The word "class" was not used like that. It just meant a group of students who were taught together for a particular subject.
