Pay someone a visit

Hi

I am looking for an idiom/idiomatic expression which means this? Could you please help?

Pay someone a short, quick visit. [Just like: shot someone an email, a quick look]

I was in the vicinity, so I thought I would shoot you a quick visit. [Does it work at all?]

Thanks,

Tom
