Pay attention vs Spend attention

Hi all!

I wonder if the phrase "Spend attention" is correct. I've heard many people in Germany say "I didn't spend attention". I realized that this is a direct translation from the German language but is this phrase commonly used in English?

I'm not native speaker, but speak German as foreign languge, too. And you are right, it is a "mirror" translation like "spending blood" (which is 'giving blood' in normal English
