Pause up to 2 hours

How would you write this naturally?1 My tv decoder allows me to pause up to 2 hours of footage. After the 2 hours the footage is lost as new footage is recorded. 2 If I pause a tv show at 2pm it'll record till 4pm and then footage wil get erased and added on so by 4:30pm you'll only be able to go back as far as 2:30pm.Thanks

Your sentence is perfect thank you, but it doesn't say exactly what happens to the footage after 2 hours. How would you say that? Is there anyway to use 'pause' as the verb?

No, you can't pause two hours of footage, but you can play two hours of footage. To pause (something) is to make it stop. Therefore, you could pause the machine for two hours, but you can't pause the footage. Also, 'put the machine on pause', but that's not 'pause' as a verb.

It's true that the machine continues to record after you've paused the TV show, but I don't see that as relevant to the looping behavior of the recording device that is not paused at the time.

Here's a version that adds to my previous sentence, and incorporates your idea about recording over the original.

I can't record more than two hours of television programming on my machine. After two hours old footage is lost as new footage is recorded over the old.
