Patronize

Hi.

From time to time I can hear on the radio the use of the verb "patronize" which, as I feel that, has a negative connotation. I've looked up the word in the dictionary and found such a definition: "to adopt an air of condescension towards (somebody)." And I have to admit that I'm none the wiser after reading this and still the complete understanding the meaning of the word is somehow puzzling to me.

Thank you.

It can also have a positive meaning: to visit a place of business regularly. " Basically, patronizing someone is talking to someone as though they were not capable of comprehending what you are saying.
