Past with Facts

1. The last laptop I had, the battery is right beside the CPU. (Is it okay to use 'is' even thought I don't have the laptop anymore? Or only 'was' is correct?)
2. The last laptop I have, the battery was ride beside the CPU. (I don't know why but 'last' sounds odd with 'have' here? Isn't 'last' = recently ? Why is 'have' wrong here?)

Thanks.

The phrase you would use in this circumstance is: The last laptop I had , the battery was right beside the CPU. The battery probably still is beside the CPU on your laptop, but since you don't own it anymore, in English, you always use "was" Leon
