past + will in one sentence possible?

Can I ever use past verb + will in the same sentence when I want to say that something happened and later ( as a consequence ) something will happen? Few examples:
John said he will be back before dark.
John said he will be in Toronto tomorrow.
It rained so I will put some gumboots.
