Past Tenses

Is it possible to ignore the Past Perfect in the sentence "When I did shopping, I went home" Or only "When I had done shopping, I went home".

These are not natural English.

When I did shopping, I went home. 
When I had done shopping, I went home.

Use these instead.

After I had finished my shopping, I went home.  
When I was done shopping, I went home.
