Past tenses

Hello, I would like to ask you about the following sentences.

Yesterday when I was watching TV, it rained.
Yesterday when I was watching TV, it was raining.
Yesterday when I watched TV, it rained.
Yesterday when I watched TV, it was raining.

Which of the given sentences is correct and most appropriate? Are there any differences in meaning between the sentences?

Thank you very much

I'd say: "Yesterday when I was watching TV, it was raining" The second is definitely past continuous, because it's like a background. If the first on is continuous too I'm not sure. But it's a period you watch TV.
